2016 Council Meeting Highlights
Council meeting highlights are posted on the College website to increase awareness of the work of the Council of the College of Early Childhood Educators. Council highlights provide members and the public with information on how the College is carrying out its mandate to serve and protect the public interest.
Council meets four times a year at the College’s office in Toronto. Meetings are open to the public.
1. January 12-13, 2016 Council Meeting Highlights
Council received updates on:
- the review of Council’s non-statutory committees
- regulations under the Child Care and Early Years Act
- work related to Council’s strategic priorities
- the Continuous Professional Learning program and Leadership Pilot 2
Council participated in a discussion about budget assumptions for 2017-18.
Council received a set of special presentations on diversity in support of strategic priority #4.
Council attended the Annual Meeting of Members on the evening of January 12; visit youtube.com/collegeofece to view the Minister of Education’s message to attendees and a special presentation on professional and interprofessional collaboration.
2. April 6-7, 2016 Council Meeting Highlights
Council received updates on:
- the College’s strategic priorities
- the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice review
Council approved:
- the 2016-17 operating budget
- the 2016-17 joint Communications and External Relations Strategy
Council reviewed the College’s risk management framework.
Council appointed members to the Nominating Committee, including a Chair.
3. June 15-16, 2016 Council Meeting Highlights
Council refreshed the strategic priorities for 2016-17, as published in the Summer 2016 issue of Connexions.
Committee updates:
- the 2016-17 Executive Committee was elected
- the Nominating Committee made recommendations to Council on appointments of committee members
- Council increased membership of the Complaints Committee to nine members and created a Finance and Audit Committee
Council approved:
- the Notice of CPL program requirements was approved.
- the assessment of educational qualifications policy, the language fluency policy and a policy on unavailable documents. These policies will be available on the College’s website fall 2016
4. October 19-20, 2016 Council Meeting Highlights
Council received updates on:
- the 2016-17 strategic priorities
- the review of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
- the College’s practice readiness initiative
- the 2017 Election of Council members
- Bill 37, the Protecting Our Students Act, 2016
Council approved:
- a workplan to implement recommendations from the review of Council’s non-statutory committees
Council members and College staff who attended recent conferences shared information relevant to the early learning and care and professional regulation sectors.
