Section 7: Language Fluency
It is a requirement for registration that applicants must be able to communicate with reasonable fluency in English or French. There are two ways you can do this:
- Graduation from a diploma or degree program, offered by a post-secondary institution, where the language of instruction for the program was either English or French.
- Achievement of the scores required by the College on an English or French language test that has been approved by the College.
In order to assess whether you meet this requirement, the College requires certain information and supporting documentation.
- In Section 7 of the Application Form for the Individual Assessment of Educational Qualifications, you must indicate whether the language of instruction for your diploma or degree program was in English, French, or another language. Check the box that applies to your circumstances.
- You must also make arrangements to have supporting documentation submitted to the College. Click on a field below for information about the supporting documents you need to submit for your circumstances.
Language of instruction was in English or French
In order to meet the language fluency requirement through these circumstances, you must have completed a diploma or degree program
entirely in English or French.
- If supporting documents indicate that you completed your diploma or degree in English or French and another language, you will be required to demonstrate language fluency through a language test.
What supporting documents must be submitted for these options?
- The College will use the information and supporting documents you submit for the education requirement under Section 6 of the Application Form for the Individual Assessment of Educational Qualifications.
- If you completed a diploma or degree program from a post-secondary institution in Canada, the College will review the official transcript.
- If you completed a diploma or degree program from a post-secondary institution in another country, the College will review the International Credential Advantage Package (ICAP) document-by-document or course-by-course report from World Education Services (WES). The report must indicate that your program was completed entirely in English or French.
See Section 6: Educational Requirement of this guide for instructions and requirements about supporting documentation
Language of instruction was in a language other than English or French
In order to meet the language fluency requirement through these circumstances, you must achieve the scores required by the College on an English or French language test that has been approved by the College. Currently, these are the:

What supporting documents must be submitted for this option?
- The College requires official test results from the testing centre at which you took the language test. The language test results must:
- Show that you achieved the minimum scores in a single sitting of the test.
- Be no more than two years old from the date you submitted your application to the College. Test results older than this will not be accepted.
- The official test results must be sent by the testing centre directly to the College.
- You are responsible for making these arrangements with the testing centre.
- The College does not accept test results that are sent by applicants or any other persons or organizations.
